Star Hunting Trysil

Star Hunting Trysil

Lucy Kirby

We went out star hunting in early January with Tim and had a great evening. He was very informative and looked after us well. It was an enjoyable family trip out and a lovely way to spend an evening

If you are in Trysil, I recommend going on the trip where I took a photo, it’s called Trysil Star Hunting and it was amazing seeing all the stars and getting help with night photography shots and a lot more. One of the best things during my holiday

The trip

When we start our Star Hunting Night Sky Adventure, we travel away from Trysil to an area with no artificial lights (housing or street lights), so we have a light pollution free night sky experience.

While your eyes adjust, Tim will introduce you to the amazing  night sky. After this, you can use our high quality binoculars, which capture more star light, so you can see even more detail and reveal the hidden gems in our night sky.

We recommend you dress for the conditions (a hat, gloves and a warm jacket), and although all footwear is suitable, we’d advise wearing comfortable, warm boots.

Included in this Star Gazing Tour:

* Travel to private land just out of Trysil, devoid of artificial lights and noises
* Small groups only (maximum of 15) for a more personalised experience
* High Quality binoculars which allow you to appreciate more of the detail
* A highly experienced local guide

Star Gazing Night Sky Tour Times:

Other tour times may be available, please email info@starhuntingtrysil.com for these times. Please note our booking system will always  fill earlier tours first before later tours times are offered.

What can I see?

No matter what binoculars you just dug out of the closet, they'll be a great addition to your stargazing sessions. Consider this: on a clear, dark night out in the country, your eyes can see up to 3,000 stars, give or take. But when you use even modest 15x70 binoculars, that number rises to roughly 100,000 stars!

Similarly, in a light-polluted suburb you may be able to see only a couple hundred stars unaided, but binoculars will cut through the murk to show you more than you could see with your unaided eye from the top of Mount Everest.

And there's much more to look at in the night sky than random stars. Scores of double stars, rich Milky Way star clouds, star clusters of various sizes and types, stars that vary in brightness from month to month or even hour to hour, a smattering of ghostly nebulae and dim, distant galaxies — all are waiting for you to track them down with binoculars and our skyscout.
