Fishing for children and families

Take the kids fishing at one of our easily accessible fishing spots. Two of the best ones are Eltsjøen Lake and Fuglsjøen Lake just east of Trysil town centre.

Want to learn to fish? Then join our fishing school! The fishing school is held at a lake near Trysil town centre. The course is adapted for children, but many adults can also learn a lot here. We light a campfire and enjoy a simple barbecue, juice and coffee.

Fuglsjøen Lake
Fuglsjøen north of Trysil town centre is full of hungry roach and perch. Standing still by the water’s edge you can often spot shoals of roach swimming near the shore. There are also some enormous pike lurking in the depths of the lake.

To get to Fuglsjøen, follow the county road from Trysil church toward Flendalen. Turn right onto a gravel track at Buflodgrenda, five kilometres north of the church. Fuglsjøen is situated one kilometre further along this track and you can drive right up to the lake.

Tip: Use quite a long fishing rod with a small float. Bait small hooks with earthworms or maggots. The lake is shallow, so the hook should be fastened quite close to the float.

Eltsjøen Lake
Eltsjøen is teeming with trout, grayling, perch and burbot. It’s best to use a boat to fish here but a great fishing spot has been created by the lake too. You can hire a boat at the service station in Jordet. Aside from traditional angling with a float and live bait, the lake also is ideal for fishing with jigs, spinning bait and flies.

Local fishermen often row around the lake with the fly or jig hanging behind the boat.

Children under the age of 16 can fish for free all year round.
